Caldera is the most important port of Costa Rica of the Pacific Coast. It is the country’s main connection with Asia for cargo transfers and its area of influence also includes the United States.
We contribute to the country’s port development and competitiveness
Each year, Puerto Caldera moves on average 6 million tons, 300 thousand TEUs, and keeps growing. The terminal has a strategic location due to its proximity by road to San José (only 90 kilometers away) and connections with the country’s national land routes. Therefore, Puerto Caldera is connected with the main productive, industrial, and agricultural centers that are located in the vicinity of the free zone in Barranca, Puntarenas, and the provinces of Alajuela, Heredia, San José, and Cartago.
Since 2006, Sociedad Portuaria Caldera (SPC) is the operator of Puerto Caldera, the main terminal of Costa Rican in the Pacific.
It is a company of Costa Rican, Colombian, and Chilean capital. Its majority shareholder is Grupo SAAM, a Chilean multinational company that is one of the main port operators in the Americas, a leader in tugboat service on this continent
